Holistic, from the Greek word 'holos', means whole...
In holistic therapy, the whole person - mind, body and spirit - is taken into account.
The 'whole person' indicates that the human body consists of various components all working
in harmony. If one component is out of balance with the others, the individual will most
likely suffer with ill health.
When we lay our hands on another with compassion and good-will, many subtle changes take
place. A touch with tenderness causes changes both physically and psychologically.
It reduces the stress hormone corisol in the body and can also reduce blood pressure and create a
greater sense of well being. With the added benefits of massage and reflexology, the
therapies are very effective.
Holistic therapies help the flow of blood and lymph in our bodies.
They help to ease away the stresses and strains on joints and muscles and aids in balancing the
body systems.
Complementary Treatments, Natural Stress Relief
Over the last 10 years, complementary therapy has become more popular and increasingly
acceptable as people are looking outside western medicine for ways to help them treat their
problems.
I experienced extreme periods of stress many years ago which caused severe tension headaches,
migraines, back pain and general ill health.
Over this time, I found that no medication relieved the pain or improved my health, so I started to
look into more natural remedies and ways to treat my problems.
I eventually found that holistic therapies relieved my pain and
helped my body to restore balance.
